Visual Merchandising Guidlines

I thought I would share a little about me before you read the VM guide so you know

what my experience is!

I have been a Visual Merchandiser for almost 20 years, some of the brands that I have

worked for include;

CHANEL • DIOR • MATCHES • HEALS • KATE SPADE • JOHN LEWIS

Let’s get into it! Below are some tips on Visual merchandising in a retail environment!

Windows

Windows are the first thing your customer see's and decides to enter your store

based from what your windows show. This is why I feel they are one of the most important elements to your whole space.

Here are my top points for enticing beautiful windows;

∞Keep your windows relevant, and featuring product that is in season

∞Don't over fill your windows, when there is too much to look at it can feel cluttered and over whelming.

∞Keep your windows clean and dust free

∞It's the perfect opportunity to be creative and highlight new product in fun ways!

Store Entrance

As your customer enters the store you want them to be instantly inspired to shop. If you have the space

to do so an entrance table is a great way to highlight seasonal product, a mother's day gifting table,

Christmas stocking filler gifts, Spring fashion accessories, Easter wreaths....

∞To help highlight the seasonal table you can include a sign showcasing the newness!

∞You can mix product here that is new and inspiring along with items that need a helping hand and a slightly more slow to sell.

∞Updating this table every couple of weeks will keep the space feeling fresh and inspire regular customers too.

Store Layout

What is the layout of your store and what is the natural journey your customer will take as they enter the

space? How accessible is each area, can you easily fit a wheelchair or pushchair through between fixtures?

∞Map your space, work out which area of the store most of your sales are coming from?

∞By zoning your space you know where you have high footfall and where the quieterareas of your space are - this means you know where not to place your best sellers!

∞Are your fixtures working for you? Can you move them to give the space a refresh and to help with the layout?

Product quantity

Is your store over stocked? I fully understand that you have so much beautiful product you want your

customers to buy but when you have too much product out on display it can sometime have the

opposite effect and overwhelm your customers having them leave empty handed.

∞Rotate your product, If you have limited space it can help to regularly change what takes up shelf space.

∞You always have the option to let your customers know you have a few more items not on display yet and can pop to the stock room to show them whist they continue to shop.

∞Really consider how many of the same item do you need to show, less is more in some cases.
