Hello!
I’m Tina, a freelance retail window designer and Visual Merchandiser. I help brands and retailers create beautiful windows and in-store creative moments.
I have almost 20 years experience as a VM and want to share the skills I’ve learnt to help smaller retailers reach their potential and build a loyal customer following through the art of Visual Merchandising, inspiring your customers and making the product shine is what I do best.
Retail Window Checklist
Below is a checklist of things to consider when creating a store window or merchandised space that will inspire your customers and have a positive impact on sales.

The Checklist

The Checklist 〰️
-
Have a plan, what product do you want to showcase? What season is it? What will people be looking to purchase in the next month or 2 that the window will be installed for? What are the elements you will need for this window? Does it need vinyl to communicate the theme or offerings?
-
This may sound obvious but when the window is fully clear, give it a good clean! Book the window cleaner for this to get inside, this alone makes a huge difference and can really elevate the final display!
-
Whilst the window is still empty do the lights need re-angling? Are there bulbs that need changing? Do the walls and floor need a re-paint? Try to look at your space with ‘fresh eyes’ as though you are a customer who is looking at your store for the first time.
-
Now the fun part! Do you need props to show your product in the best way? Plinths for smaller products? Have you thought about how to style the items? Mannequin placement, can you try something new? Side on or showing the back of an item of clothing? If you have larger items in your window - like a sofa, how can you do something different? could you hire a mannequin to sit on the sofa to catch passer by’s attention? Or can you add a stack of cushions and throws that you also sell?
-
Now you have installed the window, does it need any final touches? Lighting adjustment to shine onto the product? Final clean of the floor and outside glass. Photos for future reference and to post on social media!
-
If you wanted to bring the window theme into the store you can set up a table or space with matching props / colours and product which mirrors the window. So it brings the same story into store and it feels like the store flows nicely!
